Installing a programmable thermostat can save you 10% or more a year on your heating and cooling bills by simply turning your thermostat back by 10 to 15% (lowering the temperature by 6 to 10F) for 8 hours. By using a programmable thermostat you can have the house automatically turn the heat or air lower when your not home.

As an example a programmable thermostat can lower the home temperature during the winter by turning the heat off, and have it turn on 30 minutes or so before you get home from work or school so that its comfortable again as you walk in. Avoid placing computers, lamps, TVs, and other large equipment near your air-conditioning thermostat. The thermostat senses the heat which will cause it to run longer then needed.
