June 19, 2010 - PRLog -- The clamor ebbs away and everyone in the crowd looks in a single direction, rapt in awe and reverence. This is a scene in the front courtyard of Radha Gopinath Temple, ISKCON Chowpatty, on a Sunday afternoon. It’s Radhanath Swami, the spiritual head of the temple, who has grabbed the attention of everyone present. Earlier he had discoursed to an audience of two thousand in a hall on the first floor. Radhanath Swami accepted H. D. G. A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupad, founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, as his guru in 1973. He wholeheartedly accepted the teachings of the Vedas, and led a life as per the directions of his guru—a life of purity and simplicity. In 1986 he started his work in India: teaching spirituality in colleges; counseling people in imbibing spirituality for a satisfying life; initiating charity programs like free medical camps and free food; and in recent years, authoring spiritual books. Over the years his following has increased, now consists of thousands—mainly Indians.

Dr. Hosangadi, retired Head of the Department of Chemistry, Bombay University, says, “Sometimes people ask me whether I feel awkward while learning Indian spirituality from an American. But if they meet Radhanath Swami even once, that question would evaporate: Radhanath Swami is more spiritual than any Indian I have ever met in my life.”

Another follower, Siddeshwar Bhat, a graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology, says, “Bhagavad Gita, the foundational work in Indian spirituality, says that spirituality has nothing to do with the external designations. If anyone from any part of the world sincerely applies himself on the spiritual path, he is assured of success and he can lead others to spiritual success. Radhanath Swami is an example.”

Radhanath Swami’s life goes to show how much a person can benefit society by imbibing Vedic spirituality. If an American can do it, why can’t the Indians, who have more access to the Vedas since the beginnitheir livesng of ?
