What is Ionized Colloidal Silver?

June 19, 2010 - PRLog -- The properties of Silver have been known for centuries. Our ancestors stored water in silver containers, because it prevented the growth of bacteria and fungus. In the days before refrigeration silver coins were put into milk containers to hinder spoilage. A silver coin was placed on the umbilical chord of a newborn baby to prevent infection and almost all of a medical doctors instruments where made from silver. Imagine that, self sterilising instruments!

MEDICAL USES
During the 1930’s, silver was used internally and externally to treat a variety of medical conditions. Sadly, with the discovery of penicillin together with the fact that silver had become an expensive commodity, colloidal silver fell into disuse. However, in the 1970’s, interest in silver was rekindled as a result of its usefulness in treating burns. Silver can be used on large areas of the body. In certain forms it is non-toxic and non-stinging (It can even be used in the eyes).

WHAT IS COLLOIDAL SILVER?
A “colloid” consists of ultra-microscopic particles, which have a diameter of between 0.0002 & 0.015 microns (0.2 & 15 nano metres). These particles stay suspended in a liquid because they have a tiny charge placed on them by the electro-colloidal process. The particles are so small (normally cannot be seen by the naked eye), that the force of the electrical charge on them, against water molecules is greater than the force of gravity. The particles, in appropriate concentration, can stay in suspension almost indefinitely. As a result, no chemicals or stabilisers are required.

Ionic+ Silver is silver literally dissolved in water. A silver ion is chemically the smallest form of silver possible. A negatively charged OH molecule keeps the balance in the solution as the silver ion is positively charged.

Silver Lab Ionic+ Colloidal Silver is manufactured by an electro-chemical process which results in a solution that contains mainly Ionic+ Silver with a small amount of actual colloidal silver. Another name for this type of colloidal silver is “Electrically Isolated Silver” (EIS).

HOW DOES COLLOIDAL SILVER WORK?
Bacteria are single celled “animals”. They do not have lungs with which to breathe, so they depend on attaching themselves to certain enzymes in order to get the oxygen they require to live and thrive. Silver acts upon these enzymes and prevents the bacteria from breathing, thus suffocating them.

Colloidal silver has been shown to be bactericidal to 650 strains of diseasing causing organisms (ref. R Becker). This is why colloidal silver is useful in assisting in the treatment of so many conditions.

The unique property of colloidal silver is that on the one hand it is toxic to single celled microbes (including bacteria, virus and fungus), and on the other hand it helps with the healing process of human tissue, this is the reason it is so helpful in the treatment of burn wounds and cuts and scrapes.

IS COLLOIDAL SILVER SAFE?
Colloidal silver can be taken internally and applied topically. It is non-toxic in the correct concentration; no drug interactions have been reported. It can be used to assist in the treatment of a number of conditions or taken as a preventative measure.

HAS COLLOIDAL SILVER BEEN MEDICALLY TESTED?
Colloidal Silver has been successfully tested at the UCLA Medical Laboratories. It has also been tested for the Silver Lab by the SABS for, amongst others, the following microbes:

   * Escherichia coli (E coli) Inhibits at ¼ strength SL Ionic Colloidal Silver
   * Proteus vulgaris Inhibits at ¼ strength SL Ionic Colloidal Silver Staphylococcus aureus Inhibits at 1/8 strength SL Ionic Colloidal Silver
   * Pseudomonas aeruginosa Inhibits at 1/8 strength SL Ionic Colloidal Silver
   * Candida albicans Kills 99.9%

At present tests are being carried out against diseases such as Tuberculosis, malaria and certain of the AIDS defining diseases, with very promising results. SABS tested samples of Silver Lab SL Colloidal Silver for sterility and product was found to be sterile. (Bioburden zero, yeasts, moulds and non-selective aerobic bacteria).

COLLOIDAL SILVER LIQUID
The liquid contains no alcohol or sugar and the silver ions are suspended in distilled water. This can be consumed or applied externally. For the treatment of itchy eyes, instil one drop into each eye or rinse eyes in an eye bath with undiluted colloidal silver.

COLLOIDAL SILVER GEL
The colloidal silver gel is effective in helping to treat burns, cuts, wounds, sunburn, herpes zoster, rashes, insect bites & stings. The gel washes off easily which is ideal when changing dressings on burns. If gel is applied to a wound and then covered with a sterile bandage, SL colloidal silver liquid can be poured through the bandage at any time. This will increase the amount of active silver ions at the face of the injury. Pour liquid onto bandages that have stuck to wounds to help release the bandages during dressing changes. (The gel may also be applied inside a baby’s mouth for conditions including oral thrush and Candida albicans.)

COLLOIDAL SILVER CREAM
The colloidal silver cream helps in the treatment of skin cancer, Eczema, fungal infections including Athletes Foot, cracked heels and dry skin. As it has no colourants, preservatives, flavourings or fragrances and it is suitable for nipple care without the need to wash the cream off before feeds. SL Colloidal Silver Cream helps to soothe and heal. Use on mosquito bites and warts.

COLLOIDAL SILVER LIQUI-GEL
The colloidal silver liqui-gel is ideal for disinfecting hands and face. It can also be used in the eyes and on burns, cuts and scrapes and for gargling.
