June 21, 2010 - PRLog -- Today, it is a sad fact that in any society, children with anxiety problems is prevalent. Anxiety may vary in children and this is the reason why it’s hard for the parent to identify the cause why their child encounters anxiety, especially when there is lack of communication between the parent and the child. Behavior of the child can be expressed in many ways; the younger a child, it would be much harder to identify anxiety or fear.

A child with anxiety disorder may manifest several symptoms such as, avoidance of fear if a child sometimes sees a scary situation. Tension may also be present if a child can’t do anything she wants, difficulty of sleeping at night, stomach upset at times, temper tantrums if she needs attention, if a child is hyper in any activity, and if he/she doesn’t seem to feel tired. Parents or guardians must pay special attention to their child’s behavior and should be sensitive enough in dealing with these situations.

On the other hand, most of the time, anxiety is just a normal development pattern. Meaning, children with anxiety problems at the moment will be able to cope with it well as they grow. The most common anxiety disorder for children is called specific phobia, in which as the term suggests, a child fears a specific situation such as hearing a thunder or fear of seeing a monster.

Another symptom is selective mutism, in which a child’s feel shy especially in school or in social events. A child with this type of anxiety problem do not talk frequently when it is needed, avoids eye contact, extremely shy, stand motionless or even find ways to separate with others.

Children with anxiety problems should be dealt with properly. Take note that for a child to feel or experience anxiety may be normal but high level of anxiety may affect your child’s life. Proper medication and guidance is needed to minimize this situation because your child deserves a happy and joyful life.
