Faith Chapel Christian Center and Tyscot Records Present “Harmony Music + Business Conference”

June 18, 2010 - PRLog -- BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA – National Gospel recording label, Tyscot Records has teamed with Faith Chapel Christian Center to host the Harmony Music + Business Conference August 5th through August 8th at Faith Chapel Christian Center, located at 100 Lexington Street, Birmingham, AL. The conference will provide a unique opportunity for musicians, singers, producers, songwriters, worship leaders, dancers, and media technologists to experience hands-on training, skill-building workshops and life-changing ministry from the industry leaders. There will also be an artist showcase featuring celebrity judges from the Gospel music industry.

Tyscot Records is the nation's oldest African-American owned and operated Gospel-recording label. Tyscot has brought the world some of the best in Gospel music since it’s beginning in1976 and continues to be the home of many of your favorite Gospel artists today, including Deitrick Haddon and the Voices of Unity, Damita Haddon, the Rance Allen Group, Kathy Taylor, and Shirley Murdock.

The conference schedule of events includes a celebrity-judged artist showcase on Thursday, August 5th. On Friday, August 6th, session topics will include “Establishing An Effective Praise & Worship Team,” “Learning to Read Music,” and “Marketing, Retail and Distribution.” Later that evening, national Gospel recording artist, Byron Cage and the winner of the artist showcase will be presented in concert at the Word Dome. Saturday, August 7th, session topics will include “The Legal Side of the Music Industry,” “Bookings & Artist Promotion,” and “Becoming a Great Soloist.” Conference presenters will include Byron Cage; Psalmist and Gospel recording artist Joann Rosario Condrey; Veda Brown, Publisher, Black Gospel Promo; Sheilah Belle, Publisher, The Belle Report; Bryant Scott, CEO Tyscot Records; award-winning producers Aaron Lindsey (Israel Houghton and Marvin Sapp) and Steven Ford (Richard Smallwood and The Winans); and the Dance Theater of Harlem; plus many more.

The registration fee for the Harmony Music + Business Conference is $89 for the June 16th thru July 15th early bird, $99 if you register after July 15th. The cost for participation in the artist showcase is $150.

Tyscot Records was founded over 30 years ago in 1976 by Dr. Leonard Scott and the late, Craig Tyson in Indianapolis, IN. It now stands as the oldest Black owned Gospel recording label in the nation. Dr. Scott and Tyson established Tyscot Records as a recording vehicle for a local church choir project. Dr. Leonard Scott initially operated the company (Tyscot Records) from offices in his dental practice. In the 1980’s the label gained momentum by signing artists such as the Rev. Bill Sawyer and the Christian Tabernacle Choir, and Robert Turner and the Silver Hearts.

Faith Chapel started in April, 1981 in Dr. Michael D. Moore's home in the Wylam community of Birmingham, Alabama.  The church began with four people: Dr. Moore, his wife Kennetha, his mother, and a friend. In six months, the church grew then moved in June, 1981 to Stallworth Funeral Home. Within a year, the church re-located to the YWCA in downtown Birmingham.  Today the congregation has reached over 7,000 members and is housed in the world’s largest monolithic dome. The Word Dome is located at 100 Lexington St, just blocks from the original church.
