June 16, 2010 - PRLog -- KidSpace Interiors, specialists in design of children’s spaces, is offering a free report informing parents why they should and how to create a home activity center. “Home Activity Centers: How to Keep Kids Busy When School’s Out” is available as a free PDF download.

The report covers reasons a home with children should have areas devoted to activities away from electronic media. How to find space when space is tight, essential ingredients of and steps for creating a well-organized center that kids will be excited to use are also included in the report.

Combating boredom is only one benefit mentioned. A study entitled “Playreport” initiated by IKEA show kids prefer playing to watching TV. Stats from this study and another by the Kaiser Family Foundation on the overuse of electronic media are cited in the report.

Jeanette Simpson, a licensed interior designer and mother of six, has 25+ years experience keeping kids busy during summer vacation. Concerned with recent stats showing 8-18 year olds spend 10 hours daily using various electronic media, Simpson says, “Kids need to use time productively, away from TV and video games. Having a place set aside for fun activities can be a great way to provide stimulation, solving the boredom issue.”

Activity centers at home can also keep kids learning throughout the summer, without them realizing it, and help them be better prepared to return to school at summer’s end. Reducing time driving to-and-fro, saving gas money, and enhancing family time are additional benefits parents and kids alike will enjoy.
