Follow on Google News | WildChina and Climate Action Join in Carbon Offset Initiative PartnershipWildChina and Climate Action are now engaged in an initiative to provide WildChina travelers with carbon offset options, reduce WildChina’s carbon footprint, and further promote sustainability in WildChina’s journeys and office practices
By: Marian Goldberg Communications for WildChina Carbon emissions are greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide and methane, which pollute the atmosphere because they capture heat. These emissions are produced by airplanes, motor vehicles, industrial processes, events, and products, which in the process of being made or used, currently rely on a carbon intensive energy supply from fuels such as coal and oil. A carbon offset is a carbon credit that is a financial tool used for funding projects, like clean technology wind and solar projects, which displace the need to use carbon intensive fuels. WildChina has joined forces with Climate Action to tackle unavoidable carbon emissions that result from running and operating a travel business by making carbon offset options available to individual, educational, and corporate travelers to China. By doing so, WildChina will further reduce its environmental impact, and continue to set the standard for travel operators in China and Asia. In both client communications and on WildChina’s website, clients will have the option to purchase carbon offsets for their trip. Climate Action’s website, which facilitates environmental action through referral to carbon offsets for sustainable projects, allows clients to purchase offsets for their travel that support a project of their choice. WildChina’s work with Climate Action is unique in that it encourages WildChina travelers to engage in action via the Climate Action platform, thereby encouraging community-wide commitment to sustainability. Within the company, WildChina begins its long-term environmental sustainability initiative to offset calculated office carbon emissions from annual electricity use by purchasing offsets from Sichuan-based Pingwu Renjiaba, a small-hydro energy project. Using their carbon calculator, Climate Action has determined WildChina’s yearly electricity use in the Beijing office to be 27 tons of carbon. WildChina has matched this footprint by purchasing 27 offsets from Pingwu Renjiaba to offset this figure. From this initial effort, WildChina strives to reduce electricity use and continue to support sustainable energy projects. WildChina is proud to be the first travel operator to collaborate with Climate Action. It joins UK-based The Climate Group, a leading NGO in the climate space, in its partnership with Climate Action. The alliance of such innovative and high-end organizations in their respective fields bodes well for future collaboration, as well as progress towards improved environmental standards and protection in travel and beyond. WildChina’s collaboration with Climate Action is the latest addition to its the travel operator’s responsible business practices, which include work with non-profit and educational groups and support of local communities to which its clients travel. WildChina is pleased to work with Climate Action to further commit to environmental protection, support sustainability in China, and lead the movement for responsible, sustainable trips and business practices within China’s travel industry.
