June 16, 2010 - PRLog -- Reformist gubernatorial candidate Michael E. Arth, after spending a year fighting attempts by the state Democratic Party leadership to freeze him out of the race, has officially switched to "No Party Affiliation." From Key West at the Pridefest event, Arth and his entourage took his campaign on the road, beginning with a two-month long bicycle ride from Key West to Pensacola that started on Monday, June 14th.

Arth is attacking corruption in Florida, which, according to the Department of Justice, had 824 convicted public officials from 1998 to 2007, the most of any state. "This is only the tip of the iceberg," says Arth. "Most crooked politicians get away with their crimes, but even those taking the legal bribes, and following the rules written by the power brokers, are corrupt. This is why the approval rate of our representatives is at an all time low. Because of the way our electoral system is set up, both parties focus on power brokering and fundraising, while ignoring real issues."

"I'm running because I want to help throw the bums out, and clean up the system, so we can elect decent leaders who understand how to help the majority. We need institutional change to turn off the spigot of malfeasance, which is spewing more filth than BP's oil spill."

"Sincere people from across the political spectrum, wanting to help end corruption, have a choice this year, and a three-way race could help break the stranglehold of the two-party duopoly."

The results-oriented candidate, who is an urban designer and policy analyst, ran out the drug dealers and rebuilt 32 homes and businesses in a former slum neighborhood in DeLand. His story was the subject of a critically acclaimed, award-winning 2008 documentary titled, New Urban Cowboy.  According to the blurb on Democracy and the Common Wealth: Breaking the Stranglehold of the Special Interests, his 2010 book "exposes the dirty secrets about the American electoral system and the dysfunctional policies that have resulted from it. From how to rebuild an inner city slum to how to run a government, it traces the simple steps that can lead to representative governance and rational policies."

"On two separate occasions, Florida's top three leaders have refused to debate me on the issues," Arth said, so I'm taking it to the people to decide."
