Senator Lincoln' Influence on Financial Reform Bill to Be Debated at Derivatives Conference in NY

In her latest modification to the proposed bill, The Wall Street Journal reported that "she would exempt community banks from a contentious provision in derivatives legislation that would force big derivatives dealers to spin off their swaps desks in order to receive any federal financial assistance."

The Wall Street Journal continued "Sen. Lincoln intended the provision to target systemically significant Wall Street dealers, whose use of swaps is blamed for deepening of the financial crisis, but an industry group said the provision could unintentionally affect community banks. Sen. Lincoln acknowledged Friday that the issue needed to be addressed as the regulatory overhaul moves through conference and potentially into law."
