June 14, 2010 - PRLog -- Tucson, AZ - June 14, 2010 Michael Tucker, CEO of Xtreme Business International and adult education advocate, has been invited to give a presentation at the 16th Annual Collier County Summer Symposium for Career and Adult Educators in Fort Myers, Florida June 20-23.

Michael will be discussing how his Arizona-based marketing firm led a team of volunteers and community leaders in a fight to save adult education after Governor Jan Brewer  proposed and eliminated the $4.5M program Hence, foregoing $11M in federal matching funds.

Michael’s efforts lead to the development and oversight of a strategic social media plan that used social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and blogging to raise community awareness about the negative economic and social impacts associated with eliminating adult education and GED testing.

When funding for the adult education program was eliminated months of using social media to promote letter writing campaigns, rallies, and calls to state lawmakers, because of the high level of community exposure created around the issue, two Arizona-based community colleges choose to provide short-term funding for adult education.

Rio Salado College in Tempe and Pima Community College in Tucson has pooled nearly $1.5M keep the adult education program afloat for another year.  Additionally, contributions from these colleges allowed the state to receive $3.2M in matching funds from the federal government.

800,000 people in Arizona have not completed high school.  These individuals represent a loss of $70M in additional state tax revenues because of their limited ability to command higher salaries.
