June 14, 2010 - PRLog -- Flightless travel, also known as low-carbon or slow travel, keeps plane flights to a minimum or eliminates them from the itinerary altogether, so you travel by slower methods. Travelers reduce stress and enjoy their travel journey experiences more as a result.

The www.FlightlessTravel.com low-carbon travel resource website site recently saw a 700% increase in visitors as travelers stranded by British Air strikes and volcanic ash airport shutdowns searched for alternative, planeless ways of traveling around or getting back home.

Tom and Lorraine McMillan, the co-founders of the site, are articulate, knowledgeable people with a passion for environmental protection (Tom's an environmental scientist) and enhancing any travel experience you undertake. They took five months in 2008 to travel from New Zealand to the UK via the slow travel way, and as a result founded Flightlesstravel.com.  Visitors can review itineraries and tips posted on the site by other travelers, and add in their own experiences and suggestions for unique and creative itineraries and ways of traveling around in a plane-minimal, low-carbon way.

Full UPI story  (June 13, 4:16 am, by Marcella S. Kreiter), is located at www.UPI.com, under "Business", and then "Consumer Corner", and gives an idea of Tom and Lorraine McMillan as interview subjects.
