June 11, 2010 - PRLog -- After viewing a surgeon's drawings of the tumor which was removed from the kidney of her two year old granddaughter, Olivia - Bennett began a clinical and creative journey into order to deal with the impact of Olivia's condition. The artist simultaneously explored and exorcised these medical images through this new series of sculptural pieces. In the early stages, the work was dark and heavily layered, but as Olivia's health improved, Diana  responded by creating lighter and more vibrant forms. Embedded in these structures are photo transfers from aquatic creatures, seeds, beads, snake sloughings and wire - materials which explore the juxtaposition of the scalpel with organic forms. This exhibition represents both a profound creative investigation and powerful cathartic journey.

Diana Bennett has contributed greatly to the Canadian Arts Community as an artist, as an executive with TV Ontario, and a volunteer member of the Toronto Arts Council, the University of Toronto Art Centre, and as chair of the Toronto Arts Foundation.

Her current exhibit at Engine Gallery in the Distillery will feature the Resonance Series which she describes as "the molecular property of having more than one structure,"  and other recent work.  The exhibition opens June 12th with a reception from 2-5 PM and will continue until June 30th, 2010.
