If you were trained in the past to use scripts to cold-call your prospects, you may be asking yourself "why is this very same script that we all use to prospect with not working for me but is working for Sally, Johnny and Mary?" The answer is very profound once it is learned. What I call the "oh, now I get it" moment. One of the reasons is that people are not duplicable and systems are.(more on that later) Someone who is having a bad day because there loved one is ill or the cat died makes a cold-call to a potential prospect and sounds like the nastiest person on planet earth to speak to. Well even before we get out of the gate with the prospect, they are asking themselves, "would I want to do business with this person? Or "this is just another telemarketer wanting to sell me something!” Most female prospects, through my own experiences, will be cordial and allow us to go through our "shpeel" as I call it. Allowing us to spend the five minutes it takes to get through the script with a few questions and view points. However, the prospect never actually listened to us. Mainly because we are not listening to there questions, concerns, wants or needs. But instead just trying to read a script simultaneously asking ourselves "is this the one that will sign up under me?" While never paying attention to the prospects needs and wants and telling them that we may have a solution to there problems…especially financial problems. So it does not sound like we care about the prospect but are, instead, just trying to reach into there pocketbook or wallet with a quick sale.
This is why, as I briefly mentioned above that "systems" work and people fail. If we were given the same system to utilize in our business to prospect twenty four hours a day, seven days a week with, we would all be on a level playing field. No matter what your nationality, age, and more importantly, your experience is speaking to people, especially your cold-market, not one of those prospects is getting a different "feel" for your product or service. They are all being presented with the same exact system to truly see if they hold an interest or not in what it is you are offering. A system does not have either a bad mood or a good mood. Nor does it sound pushy or demanding. And everyone who utilizes the same exact system will virtually have the same chances of succeeding.
I am giving you this information from my first hand experience and what I have learned in the recent past. The idea of utilizing a system and not a script is very profound and makes a lot of sense when we think about it. And best of all…it works!
