PRLog -- Since World War I the Destroyer class has been mass-produced and the crews hard-boiled to engage the challenging role in which these "Tin-Cans" play in the United States Navy. On this particular occasion being week of the 66th Anniversary of the D-Day invansion of Normandy, France during World War II, where US Destroyers played a crucial role in the largest amphibious beachhead in US Naval history. 55 destroyers and escorts participated in the Western Channel Approaches along with three escort carriers. 3 destroyers and a destroyer escort were lost off the coasts from mines and torpedo attack. This along with previous years patrolling the English Channel for Nazi U-Boats and escorting valuable payloads across the Atlantic. Meanwhile in the Pacific, US "Tin Can" Sailors engaged the mighty Imperial Japanese Navy from Guatalcanal to Okinawa enduring the greatests of maritime adversaries and grueling the vast unforgiving seas.
During the Korean and Vietnam Wars the 7th Fleet Destroyers ensured the waters of the East Sea of North Korea were safe on both sides of the 38th Parallel. Then again over a decade later patrolling and supporting coastal activity in the Gulf of Tonkin off North Vietnam.
Todays Destroyers are doing no less in the Persian Gulf, Korea and around the world answering the call to weather the worsts seas and the most dangerous waters to ensure our soldiers, fighters and capital ships arrive safely to their destinations. This week Vision-Strike-
Wear is celebrating the men and women of the United States Navy and the "Tin-Can" Sailors around the world with our new design "Backbone of the Navy" for men and womens's t-shirts, long sleeve t-shirts, crewnecks & sweatshirts, hoodies, tank-tops, commemorative plaques, decals & stickers and we hope you wear them proudly.
