Mental Health Social Network Experiences Recent Growth

The new beta version includes a new design/layout, an updated status page, added options in the profile, the ability for users to blog on a Word press multi-user blog system, where users can contribute to the main mental health social blog.

Since the launch of mentalhealthsocial.com's alpha version on December 2nd, 2009 the site has approximately 1700 members. Wood understands the need for community in this industry. He was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1999 and can relate to the members of the community. "We're trying to create a user friendly free online environment where users can feel safe and get support at the same time," said Wood. "There might not be anyone else in a patient's life that has experienced their condition, which can make it difficult for family and friends to relate or understand what they're going through. Mentalhealthhsocial.com eliminates those feelings of isolation by bringing people with similar experiences together."

Author Clive Wild who is also a mental health advocate and member of Mental Health Social says, "Mental Health Social has become my preferred place to meet and engage with other people who have experience of, or an interest in, mental illness."

Mental Health Social allows users to create profiles where they can choose to share information about themselves, post videos, upload audio or photographs, and offer or receive help from like minded members of the community. "MentalHealthSocial.com was created with the mental health community in mind," said Wood. "Currently no other web site caters to that community in the same way as Mental Health Social.” The company is about more than connecting people though. MentalHealthSocial.com is also about raising awareness. Mental Health Social will actively work to raise money for mental health related non profit organizations to bring awareness, treatment options and research to the very community it serves. MentalHealthSocial.com lets users communicate through email-style messaging, instant messaging/chat, blogging, status updates, commenting, and within forums. Other features include free classifieds, polls, events, and the ability to create narrower social groups within the network.
