Enthusiasm wont exactly be at an all time high when arguably the biggest sporting event is on during the summer, so what can employers do to tackle (excuse the pun) the problem.
By: Love2reward This in mind, how will companies tackle (excuse the pun!) the idea of lack of productivity in the workplace, in particular when England games are on TV between working hours, the answer for management could be, don’t fight it! According to PriceWaterhouseCoopers in a poll of 1,000 workers, 51% of males and 21% of females said they would be watching the World Cup in work, with only 14% of people watching with the permission of their employer. The amount of people watching without their employers’ permission will probably be doing so with one eye on excel and the other on a live audio or visual stream. What’s the solution for employers? 1. Turn a blind eye and recognise that by a very tenuous link England doing well at World Cup 2010 could potentially boost productivity and the economy ten-fold. 2. Find a way to provide incentives for staff in order to watch the football, i.e. working through lunch hours and making up time elsewhere. Or the idea of employees clocking up 'brownie points' for not watching the football by way of rewards such as gift vouchers. 3. Set up a big screen and free bar in the company canteen. One of these options is sure to have a positive impact whichever way you look at it! Luckily, England's first two group matches happen to fall in the evening or at the weekend. One thing is for sure, if England keep winning, staff motivation won’t be hard at all, it’s just a case of motivating them to actually do work!
