June 8, 2010 - PRLog -- Swampscott, MA—Merlin buries a mysterious object during the fall of Rome that can change the fate of the world. Centuries later good and evil secret societies face off against each other for ultimate power, and four young people are forced to solve Merlin’s secret at great peril. These are just some of the forces set in motion in William Peever’s debut, young adult fantasy novel, The Jumper Chronicles: Quest for Merlin’s Map, which also blends in equal amounts of history, mythology, science fiction, and, as the author states, “a splash of astro-physics.”

Charlie Burrows feels that he is just an ordinary twelve-year-old living with his mother in a small, seaside New England town. He just never realized that he was imbued with a most incredible pow-er, passed on by Norse Gods through the Druids of Britton, to jump between dimensions into other parallel worlds: he is a Jumper.  He discovered this when he was carried off, with his friend Bailey, by a mysterious stranger who transported them instantaneously on a beam of light to a castle in Scotland. The stranger is Lord Grayson, a shape-shifting Manserian, a master of all the elements, who is the headmaster of the Thornfield School, an academy for children with extraordinary powers. And, it just so happens that the Thornfield castle/school, run by a secret society called the Order, was built over the ruins of the wizard Merlin’s castle.

Thus begins the magical adventures of Charlie and Bailey, who meet up with Mick and Tillie, also students with exceptional powers, and a werecat named Joelle, who can change from a cute Sia-mese house-cat into a ferocious tiger. The friends, each with unique paranormal powers, must un-ravel the mystery of Merlin’s 3-dimensional map, magic rings, power crystals, and links to other dimensions, to other worlds.

Peever’s story is an enchanting mixture of Arthurian legend, Druidic lore, and Harry Potter type exploits against the forces of darkness. And the final challenge for Charlie is to find a father he has never known and thought to be dead, who is caught within a transdimensional rift—frozen in time—because he alone has the power to jump between these dimensions. Quest for Merlin’s Map is the first book in William Peever’s Jumper Chronicles series, which will continue the exploits of Charlie and his amazing friends as they battle against villains of unimaginable evil.

William C. Peever has been a door-to-door salesman, a restaurant manager, a science teacher, a photographer, and a sailing instructor. After graduating from Bennington College with a degree in Environmental Sciences and doing graduate work in Conflict Resolution from Johnston State University he traveled the world for 8 years. Now he has settled down in Swampscott, MA, with his wife, Kate, his two daughters, Abby and Emma, and their Chocolate Lab Tags.  He is at work on the next book in The Jumper Chronicles series.
