Premier London Portuguese restaurant and wine bar, Portal, celebrates five years of success

June 8, 2010 - PRLog -- Since 2005, the Portal restaurant and bar has been delighting food lovers and wine connoisseurs alike, with its modern European gastronomy, combining Portuguese cuisine with the sophisticated style of the French, complemented by a specialist wine list containing wines sourced with extreme care and attention from the finest vineyards in Portugal.

And the man behind it all is veteran restaurateur and owner, Antonio Correia.
As a member of both the Confraria do Vinho Porto (Royal Port Society) and Confraria da Bairrada, Antonio has developed a vast knowledge and experience in port and wine. This is reflected in his extensive list of fine Portuguese wines, as well as a choice selection of wines from award-winning vineyards across both the new and the old worlds.

You only need to step into Portal to understand why Antonio’s restaurant is a favourite amongst celebrities, foodies and fashionistas alike. Located in the trendy, buzzing central London hub of Clerkenwell, and a mere 10 minute walk from London’s financial district, Portal provides an intimate and stylish meeting point, ideal for enjoying an aperitif or two of a chilled extra dry white port or an invigorating cocktail after a hard day in the office.

The warmth of Iberian dining is complemented by the bold interior design, spilling back into a glorious glasshouse conservatory. The airy dining area lends an al-fresco feel that is spectacular both day and night, across all seasons. The outside courtyard, which is both intimate and secluded, enabling guests to get away from the hustle and bustle of trendy St John Street. For those who want to really get away from it all, an individual private room is also available for both personal and corporate hire.

At the heart of the restaurant is the bustling open-plan kitchen, where Executive Head Chef Pedro Peinado Pereira creates classics such as traditional braised ‘Bisaro' (a house speciality). His new Spring menu displays a delicate understanding of authentic flavours, ensuring that well-known dishes are complemented by inventive, daring modernity - Monkfish tenderloin stuffed with alheira and spinach wrapped in presunto, pigeon soufflé with foie gras, morcela and crayfish rice, or ‘Leitão á Bairrada', the famous Portuguese suckling pig. And there are vegan and vegetarian options, to please every palate! Chef Pedro was one of the finalists in the 2005 Head Chef of the Year Award in Portugal.

All this considered, one can see why Portal is still enjoying such great success.

To experience it for yourself, Antonio invites you to join him for Portal’s fifth anniversary celebrations and summer soirée on Monday 14 June 2010 – 88 St John Street, EC1M 4EH.
