June 8, 2010 - PRLog -- The IJIS Institute Public Safety Technical Standards Committee (IPSTSC) has released a new whitepaper entitled Standardized Interfaces and Exchanges for Justice and Public Safety. IPSTSC is a standing committee of the IJIS Institute, a nonprofit organization that focuses on mission-critical information sharing for justice, public safety, and homeland security.

Traditionally, the majority of justice and public safety software applications were not originally designed to interoperate with products from other companies. As a result, many costly interfaces have to be developed which are custom and proprietary, and are based on application-specific solutions. Standardized Interfaces and Exchanges for Justice and Public Safety is intended to create awareness and educate justice and public safety personnel on the benefits of employing standardized information sharing in order to save money, time and resources. The rapid growth and acceptance of the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM), the use of Information Exchange Package Documentation (IEPD), and the development of the Justice Reference Architecture (JRA), have demonstrated how custom proprietary interfaces can be replaced with cost-effective solutions for interfacing disparate systems. Each of these topics is discussed in the whitepaper, located at: http://www.ijis.org/docs/WP/ijis_wp_stdz_int_exc_justice_....

The IJIS Institute has two additional NIEM documents created by the IJIS Institute Technical Advisory Committee (ITAC): NIEM IEPD XML Code Generation in C# with .NET 3.5 and NIEM IEPD XML Code Generation in Java. These resources are available through the National Information Sharing Standards Help Desk, http://it.ojp.gov/framesets/niss-noClose.htm.
