Jose Kamena- Congolese Master of "Tshiak-tshiak"

In life very few people have the ability to truly master a technique, and fewer still have the ability to teach others the technique once they have mastered it. Jose Kamena is one of those rare individuals that has the ability to do as well as teach.
 
June 7, 2010 - PRLog -- Jose Kamena was born in the port city of Matadi in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa. He studied pharmaceutical and medical iconography at the University of Kinshasa from 1981-1985. Kamena is responsible for all rubrics on the site Congonline.  He currently teaches classes in the style of painting known as "Tshiak- tshiak". The style Tshiak-tshiak is an original style that Kamena developed which combines both the characteristics of traditional and contemporary Negro art. In 1994 and 1996 Kamena received Certificates of  Artistic Laureate from the French and Flemish communities. Since 2002 he has represented the Bana Matadi Action Association (BMAasbl). Kamena has also done illustrations in the children's book "Twas All Because of a Nose".

Jose Kamena's work will be on display M-F from 9 AM -6 PM, and are available for purchase. Guided tours of the gallery are available. Please contact the author to arrange a tour.
