June 7, 2010 - PRLog -- The inaugural ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on May 27, 2010, at the Foundation’s Garden City headquarters.

In attendance was County Executive Ed Mangano, who described the clinic as “an important partnership between the public and private sectors, it offers those struggling with epilepsy and other disorders one professional clinic to address all issues.”

County Legislator Rose Marie Walker was also present at the ceremony, and echoed Mangano’s views on the importance of this kind of resource.

“Rather than have to go to different places for treatment, here they can go to one center to get the help they need,” said Walker.  “It’s great for the county to be a part of this.”

The new clinic is the first of its kind in the region, where licensed social workers will apply their expertise to patients dealing with epilepsy and/or other mental health disorders in one location.

“This was something very much needed on Long Island,” said Jennifer Colbert, Director of Clinical Services at the Foundation. “We are very excited to provide mental health services in Nassau County.”

Thomas M. Hopkins, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of the Foundation, quoted Winston Churchill in expressing that “if we are together nothing is impossible,” describing the concerted effort between the public and private sectors. It is through “the successful alliance of Nassau County, the New York State Office of Mental Health, and the Epilepsy Foundation of Long Island,” that such a resource is available to Long Island residents, said Hopkins.
