By: Zeal Last summer, India Unbound (a leading India tour and travel operator from Australia) organized a group tour to attend a three day workshop in north India. The group arrived in Delhi, from where they began the train journey to Dharamshala, a city of Himachal Pradesh. Himachal Pradesh, a state in north India, is a popular tourist destination for backpackers, mountain trekkers, people interested in Tibetan Buddhism, Indian honeymooners and travelers looking to get away from the heat of the low lying areas of north India in the summer, when the temperatures on the plains can reach 45 C or more. Dharamsala is busy little town with much of interest for tourists and travelers. Dharamsala is also home to the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhist people. However the focus of the India Unbound trip was to meet and have three days of teachings with Tibetan Buddhist nun Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo. The teaching program took place in the small settlement of Bir, about 150 kilometers east of Dharamsala, at the lovely teaching and retreat centre called Deer Park (www.deerpark.in) The group found the teachings to be a powerful and extremely rewarding experience. Thanks to the generous payments made by those in attendance, the group managed to generate nearly AU$16 000 for Dongyu Gatsal Ling, which was given to the nunnery as contribution for the teachings, to be put toward further construction at the nunnery.
