June 5, 2010 - PRLog -- Surprise, Arizona—Recently, Imagine Prep freshman, Couree Berry had the opportunity commentate for the Phoenix Mercury exhibition game against Team China.
During the game Berry was responsible for providing color commentary or assisting the play by play announcer by filling time when a play is not in progress. Berry spent the week before preparing for the gig by studying the players biographies and articles written about the 2009 WNBA Champions. Learning about Team China was a little more difficult, partly because of the language barrier, but Berry did the best she could as she broadcasted live internationally online on the Kidstar Radio Network.
“It was fun,” said Berry. “But difficult sometimes because it was my first time doing anything like that, but I would definitely do it again.”
Lacee Collins, the media teacher at Imagine Prep, explained when Perry Damone, Kidstar Radio Network cofounder offered the chance for one of the students, Berry was the first to come to mind as one of the members of the Lady Storm basketball team and a fan of the WNBA.
“Throughout the school year, I explained to the students that there will be opportunities to apply classroom lessons to the real world…Couree’s experience is simply one example of the wonderful opportunities our students were able to partake in this year,” said Collins.
“It was cool, it was a really good experience,” said Berry. “And it helped that I took Media at Imagine Prep I wasn’t nervous because I kind of knew what to expect.”
