Foundations of the Modern State
Climb down into the amazing underground, pre-State bullet factory built by the Haganah under the noses of the British at the Ayalon Institute. Enjoy an impressive presentation of the amazing achievements of the Palmach at the new multi-media Palmach Museum (if available) OR At Independence Hall, relive Ben Gurion's moving declaration of the State. Browse through unique craft items in Nachalat Binyamin's colorful, open-air market, and see modern Tel Aviv in action. Proceed to the sparkling port city of Haifa for hotel checkin. Kabbalat Shabbat with (Reform) Congregation Or Hadash, including special welcome by Rabbi Edgar Nof. Catered Shabbat Dinner at Or Hadash, together with some synagogue members.

In the Footsteps of Sages and Mystics
Explore the magnificently excavated ancient city of Tzippori, home to Rabbi Judah the Prince; discover ancient beauty and evidence of a community in which Jews and Romans coexisted peacefully. Tour the synagogues, courtyards, and shops of the mystical city of Tzefat. Meet with Tzefat kabalistic artist, Avraham Lowenthal, in his gallery to explore Jewish mysticism through the prism of his creations. Glide down the Jordan River tributaries in a kayak at Kibbutz Kfar Blum (age 5 or over) Visit the Naot Sandal factory and perhaps take home some of this classic Israeli footwear. Return to

The Golan Heights
Travel to the Golan Heights and gaze down over the Galilee, as the Syrians once did. Enter former Syrian bunkers and learn how master spy Eli Cohen revealed their secrets. Learn about the history of the Golan Heights and the valiant story of Gamla, called the "Masada of the North," at the lovely Golan Antiquities Museum. Ascend to the peak of Har Bental, where you can enter army bunkers and take in a panoramic view at the crossroads of three countries. Travel south along Israel's newest highway. Gaze upon the Temple Mount from the Tayelet, as did Abraham when he prepared to sacrifice Isaac; take in the breathtaking view. Visit the Kotel (Western Wall) First time visitors: In the Kotel Tunnels, walk alongside the Western Wall's massive foundation stones; Repeat visitors: Walk along the Via Dolorosa to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, visit the Coptic Village and Armenian Quarter. Free time for lunch (on one's own) and shopping in the Jewish Quarter. Go way back in time to King David's Jerusalem in David's City and enjoy sloshing through Hezekiah's water tunnel (strap-on water shoes and flashlights needed).

Depart for the Dead Sea Region. Ascend Masada by cable car or the Snake Path. Tour this impressive excavation and discuss the terrible dilemma faced by its Jewish population during Roman times. Spend some time today at a Dead Sea resort hotel, enjoying its spa facilities, lunch, and the amazing Dead Sea (Repeat Visitors who have been to Masada before may choose to arrive earlier at the spa hotel and have extra time there) Optional afternoon excursion from the Dead Sea hotel: Enjoy a walk through the beautiful Ein Gedi nature reserve and review the biblical story of kings David and Saul that took place there "on site". Plant a tree in Israeli soil in honor or in memory of a loved one. At the "Dig for a Day" program at Beit Guvrin, uncover actual artifacts as you participate in an ongoing archeological dig. Visit to the Israel Museum including the new Shrine of the Book, the newly reopened Model of Jerusalem in the Second Temple Period, and the children's wing. Free evening in Jerusalem.

Those Who Sacrificed
Visit the newly-opened state-of-the art Holocaust Memorial Museum and the Children's Memorial at Yad Vashem (age 12 and up, only); alternative interactive children's tour on site. Take in a truly enjoyable multi-media presentation about the life of the Father of Modern Zionism at the newly opened Herzl Museum. At Har Herzl Military Cemetery encounter the "silver platter" on which the Jewish people have acquired - and continue to acquire - our state Visit colorful, bustling Machaneh Yehuda open-air market, as Jerusalem prepares for Shabbat (time permitting) Kabbalat Shabbat at the Kotel or a choice of neighborhood synagogues (suggestions, walking instructions provided).
