German Snuff Championships - Sneeze and you’ll be disqualified!

June 2, 2010 - PRLog -- Snuff has been used in Europe for over 400 years and it was only in the middle of the 19th century that it was overshadowed by cigarettes. Bavaria in Germany still maintains the old tradition and has dozens of snuff clubs and it is in Bavaria that the German Snuff Championships take place on Saturday, 05.06.2010.

Each of the contestants from all over Germany has a box containing 5 grams of snuff and a personal referee to prevent swindling. He has to snuff as much as possible during the 60-second time limit. Points are allotted for the amount snuffed as well as the precision. At the end of the 60 seconds the referees gather the ‘left overs’, which are deducted from the original 5 grams.

Although it is called snuff taking championships the snuff is only stored in the nose - you can see the contestants blowing and washing the snuff out after each round in the so called ‘nose washrooms’...YUK!

At least 500 spectators are expected to follow the event.

The snuffers will all be dressed in leather trousers and national costume, swilling humungous jugs of beer, standing up to national anthems, umpah bands and thigh slapping dancing...
