echelon 2010 - Asia’s leading web technology event attracts experts from around the globe

June 1, 2010 - PRLog -- echelon 2010 kicked off on 1 June 2010, with over 600 participants attending the event to hear the views and discussion panels from 40 global leaders in the web technology sector. A highlight of the two-day event is the Startup Launchpad, where seven new start-up companies from Singapore, Hong Kong and Indonesia launched their presence, and three companies launched new products – making this Singapore’s largest multiple company/ product launch. echelon 2010 is organised by e27, supported by NUS Enterprise and sponsored Yahoo!, SingTel and Amazon.

“echelon 2010 is at the frontier of the Internet and web technology landscape, organised to meet the needs of entrepreneurs and investors, keen to understand more on the complex dynamics of the Asian web technology landscape. We have renamed this from the previous unConference Singapore held last year, as it represents the echelon of the web technology sector. We are delighted to have been able to attract the cream of the crop in terms of speakers and panellists, who are with us to share the latest trends, their thought leadership and what to expect in the future,” said Mohan Belani, Director of e27, the organiser of echelon 2010.

During the Startup Launchpad, 10 companies pitched their ideas and business plans to a panel of experts. The panel will provide advice to the start-ups on how to run their companies, as well as tips on how to improve their business plans. The panel involves eight experts within the web technology sector. They are: Dave McClure, Bret Terrill, Lai Kok Fung (CEO and Co-Founder BuzzCity), Jayesh Parekh (angel investor and founder of Sony Entertainment Television), Noah Kagan (Founder Gambit), Vishal Gondal (CEO Indiagames), Lee Fong (Deputy Director SingTel Innovation Exchange) and Fergus Hurley (CEO Clixtr, a venture-backed mobile company).

The 10 start-ups/ products that have launched during echelon 2010 are:

1) FlickEvents is the one-stop platform for easy event management and effective community engagement, which helps event organisers increase their events’ turnout. FlickEvents is currently being incubated by NUS Enterprise. http://www.flickevents.com

2) foound is an iPhone application, which lets users organise hangouts with friends.

3) Maxus Media & Software Pte Ltd is a Singapore based company that has developed Maxus Contentian, a powerful tool to improve website content.  http://www.contentian.com  

4) MoVend is a mobile payment system that makes selling virtual goods and mobile content simple, seamless and hassle-free. MoVend is a product of Stream Media, an NUS Enterprise incubatee company. http://www.movend.com

5) MyCube addresses online social networking issues, where lack of privacy is the largest concern today. Users decide and control who gets to see what content and with the support of MyCube’s advertising platform, users will be enabled to monetise their digital content and encounter relevant advertising in the right context.  http://www.mycube.com

6) PandaForm is an application form processing software, which makes ticket purchasing, events registration and filling out all sort of application forms easy and fun. http://www.pandaform.com  

7) Scraplr is a social task container with reminders to help users keep track of what needs to be done.  http://www.scraplr.com

8) tangoFX Platform is a context aware Interactive Media service that provides live and on-demand cinematic experiences for viewers to watch shows, movies and videos anywhere, anytime and on any screen (mobile, PC, Kiosks, and HDTV). tangoFX is a service of ABOVE Solutions. http://www.above-inc.com

9) Time Voyager is a Singapore-based company that has successfully developed its own patented game engine. Called JX 2 Engine (JX2), this is a complete solution for developers creating next-generation games, virtual reality simulations and other 3D animated contents. http://www.timevoyageronline.com

10) ZelRealm Interactive is a technology partner for social game developers. The company helps developers to improve their social game by supporting the integration and management of virtual items and economies, together with its user-focused game management system. http://www.zelrealm.com/  

During last year’s unConference, two start-up companies launched their presence; Social Wok (http://socialwok.com) and iTwin (http://www.itwin.com). These companies have grown over the year, expanding their business and product development. Socialwok is a social networking service built around Google Apps, with over tens of thousands of users, allowing individuals to connect and engage with business partners. They were one of the first companies featured on Google Apps marketplace. iTwin is developing a plug & play device that allows users to remotely access, copy, edit and upload files on an online computer. Over the past year, the company has improved the device design, added new features and incorporated consumer feedback. It aims to launch its flagship product in August 2010.
