June 1, 2010 - PRLog -- Brentwood, TN  (May 28, 2010) - M. Lee Smith Publishers, a leading provider of employment law compliance training and information resources to the Human Resources community, announces the release of a new training program, Talent Management Skills for Supervisors: Master Hiring, Firing, Discipline and Performance Evaluations.

"This is a supervisor training tool that addresses both employment law issues and the people-management practices that build effective workforces," says president Dan Oswald. "This combination of approaches makes it more accessible and memorable for trainees, and solves two problems with one program."

The 4 modules, on DVD and available online, feature both vignettes and commentary from experts, including a leading employment law attorney and a highly respected HR consultant. Each 30-minute module focuses on one specific supervisory responsibility to explain which actions and words can create workplace disruptions and legal entanglements.

An organization’s talent management practices will often decide if it wins or loses the war for top talent. The most successful employers use such practices to attract the most productive contributors, reduce workplace friction and turnover, and clearly communicate expectations. Talent Management Skills for Supervisors was written and produced to meet those goals.

Each training session is conducted by Texas attorney Mike Maslanka and Candace Kollas, President of Workable Options, an HR consultancy. She has been responsible for implementing training programs for Coca Cola Enterprises, among others.

"Supervisors need to understand that, in many cases, they can be held personally liable for their actions, if such actions are proved to be illegal," says Maslanka.

"And even if they aren’t illegal, the result of poorly chosen words and deeds can manifest itself throughout an organization, through higher turnover and lower morale and productivity," says Kollas.
