Spices Online - MySpiceSage vs. Dollar a Day Gourmet - See What You're Paying For

Ever wonder why the spices online sites all seem to charge 2 bucks and over an ounce? That is except newcomer Dollar a Day Gourmet who sells its one ounce size for just 98 cents? See what it is you're paying for.

May 31, 2010 - PRLog -- Online spice sales are a hot market and the competition is as firey as cayenne pepper. Do an online search though for any of the popular terms for spices and herbs and there might just be a paid advertisement right up top, with MySpiceSage.com right in your face.

Obviously, these are smart aggressive people. And they're paying for it too, so in the end, so are you. The site is owned by distinguished 80 year old gourmet food pillar Zenobia, they sell an excellent product, and their site is super-slick, especially after a major league effort by ecommercepartners.net, a hotshot NY guru firm that specializes in Rolls Royce solutions for Internet Commerce.

We can only assume that the price tag was as impressive as their work.

Between that and their heavy advertising, if MySpiceSage isn't number one in the online spices business yet, it won't be long in our opinion. Plus, their unit price per ounce, for oregano, as an example, is the lowest to be found on the web, at $2.00 even, but free shipping and handling don't kick in until your order reaches 40 bucks.

One ounce of a spice is a coveted size for consumers, as even though it's not the most economical, it fits nicely on your spice rack, is less likely to go stale like a bulk purchase might be over time, and it's convenient, and so many American consumers are all about convenience.

Enter though Dollar a Day Gourmet, an upstart, cleverly put together light hearted food and cooking site that besides toying with the notion that you can eat fairly well for just a dollar a day if you really put your mind to it, is trying to make a go of it as the bargain basement solution for spices online, and they charge just 98 cents an ounce. That's less than half of any Internet competitor they've priced, and even cheaper than Walgreen's 99 cent special store brand.

And, shipping and handling being the bane of the Internet marketer, they knock that right out of the box at the start, and their shipping and handling is FREE. They ship their orders USPS priority mail and it's no secret that that costs just $4.95.

To boot, Dollar a Day Gourmet even offers its customers their own private label which can be personalized as part of the order process.

The one catch? You have to buy all 16 of their spices, for a total price of $15.68, which in their sales pitch, isn't so bad when you consider that McCormick oregano goes for $8.08 an ounce in the grocery store (Shop Rite - Bay Shore, NY  11706).

Is the product as good? They plan to let consumers decide for themselves. They also have a 30 day return the unused portion of the product with up to 100% money back for any reason policy and also offer a 10 % discount for 1st time customers as well as a 5 % referral fee through issuing a coupon code. That and a free $5 value set of Gold Medal Adjustable Measuring Spoons with each order while supplies last.

Be interesting to see how they fare.
