May 29, 2010 - PRLog -- Northwest Working Dogs will host an ATTS test on June 13, 2010, at the Columbia County Fairgrounds, St. Helens, OR.  This is the 4th annual expo to be held and this test always draws record numbers - so much so that it is typically sold-out!  There is still space open this year, registration can be found here: http://www.nwworkingdogs.com/sign-up.php.  Pre-entries are $30; day of show goes up to $40!

The ATTS Temperament Test focuses on and measures different aspects of temperament such as stability, shyness, aggressiveness, and friendliness as well as the dog's instinct for protectiveness towards its handler and/or self-preservation in the face of a threat.  More information can be found here: http://www.atts.org.

The dogs are tested by simulating a walk and facing them with various difficulties that could be encountered.  Obstacles include friendly or threatening strangers, loud noises, and other fun surprises, all geared to test natural reactions.

The test has gained popularity recently, especially in our current environment, where breed specific legislation seems to be on everyone’s mind.  This is an avenue that allows owners to show that their dogs are sound and able to be good family members and a part of the community at large.

The test itself is fun to watch and can always use volunteers.  If you would like to volunteer or get additional information the flyer can be found here: http://nwworkingdogs.com/ATTS2010Flyer.pdf

The expo promises much so much more – for the canine adventurer to the couch dog next door, there is something for everyone.  Protection Dogs International will hold a trial, International All Breed Canine Association will hold a conformation show, and don’t forget the Raffle for Rescue which always has awesome prizes!  Entry is free, parking is $5 or a food donation for the Pacific Northwest Pit Bull Rescue (http://www.pnwpbr.org).  See you there!
