Spices and Herbs War

Food Savings Guru "Chef Monk" of Dollar a Day Gourmet, an upstart web site for healthy & good dining & grocery bill savings, has gone to the mattresses in a good natured Spices and Herbs price war, daring anyone to beat their 98 cents an ounce price.

May 28, 2010 - PRLog -- "I'm a war consigliere, baby, and no one beats our price on spices. The lowest regular price I've been able to find on spices in a one ounce size is 99 cents an ounce at Walgreen's. McCormick Oregano is at the high end at $8.08 an ounce. (price as of May 2010, Shop-Rite, Bay Shore, NY  11706) Now, that's just crazy. Spices are the most outrageously marked up thing we buy in the grocery store, and Dollar a Day Gourmet is fighting back," said Chef Monk.

Reactions to the new offering have so far been "quite positive," said Monk, who hatched the plan for Dollar a Day Gourmet. "We're getting some good visibility in the search engines and we're just jazzed about it.

"I figured out the costs to three decimal places on the penny for every step of the way on this deal and I came up with a way where they can still make a little profit while making a big statement, that consumers are tired of being taken advantage of at the checkout. One trip of the grocery cart down the spices aisle can break you, and that's what we're fighting."

To make the deal even more attractive, Dollar a Day Gourmet also allows each buyer to design their own custom private label, at no extra cost.

The one catch is that you have to buy their entire selection of sixteen spices at once, but at 98 cents an ounce, that comes to just $15.68 and shipping and handling is free, which makes it a fantastic bargain, which they say no one can beat.

"And if someone does beat us by a penny?" added Chef Monk, whose daily earthy banterings are featured on the web site as "Chef Monk's Digestive Tracts," a humorous peek into the budget minded cook's warped world, "I got a war plan where they can drop their price to 96 cents overnight, quicker than a prom dress, baby. Bring it on!"

The offering indeed should be a hit for holiday, Mother's Day and birthday gifts, as well as fundraising efforts and just bargain loving cooks.
