Trafford Publishing News- Keith Ogorek Releases Whitepaper, A Response to 2009 Bowker Figures

Keith Ogorek, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Author Solutions Inc., presents a paper on the rise of the author in publishing.

May 28, 2010 - PRLog -- Bloomington, IN– Keith Ogorek, Senior Marketing VP for Author Solutions Inc, recently released a paper titled “The Best Time in History to Be an Author.” The paper is in part a response to the recent figures from Bowker, the US ISBN release agency and leading source for book information. Bowker reported a 181% rise in self-publishing titles in 2009, a figure which Mr. Ogorek says points to an encouraging trend in the future of publishing.

Mr. Ogorek’s paper cites three technological factors that contributed most to the rise of the autonomous author: desktop publishing, digital printing, and the emergence of the Internet as the world’s biggest and most convenient bookstore.  But, he adds, it was the combination of the three that led directly to the self-publishing boom, creating “a whole new world of opportunity for authors.”

”If you are an author with a manuscript,” he points out, “you now have more options than ever before to get your book into the hands of readers.”

Mr. Ogorek notes that even before the rise of Amazon, independent publisher Trafford Publishing already had an online bookstore. Formerly based in British Columbia, Trafford is now under the Author Solutions umbrella company.

According to the article, the new self-publishing companies, with a full complement of editors, illustrators and book designers, have removed much of the difficulty of self-publishing. “No matter what the budget and goal,” Mr. Ogorek concludes, “authors can publish their manuscripts quickly, affordably, and professionally.”
