Evolve Turns a Trip to the Salon into an Oil Spill Solution

May 27, 2010 - PRLog -- Evolve Salon, located in Little Italy’s Porto Vista Hotel, is doing its part to help contain the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico that continues to threaten our environment. As part of a nationwide effort and in partnership with Pureology Serious Colour Care, Evolve is donating hair clippings swept up off its floors to Matter of Trust, an organization that uses the donated hair to clean polluted waters.

As hair is a natural absorber of oil, the collected hair is placed into recycled stockings to create a boom that will eventually skim the contaminated waters and help return the ocean to its original state.

“The Evolve team wanted to show their support for this important cause and help raise awareness of this detrimental environmental issue as it impacts all of us,” said Chrissy Sheely, manager of Evolve Salon. “Just one pound of hair can absorb up to a quart of oil in a minute and can be wrung out and reused multiple times.”

Evolve has made an effort to collect and store clean hair trimmings of all lengths and types, and plans to donate over 15 boxes of hair to Matter of Trust.

Sheely continued, “A lot of people have felt helpless trying to rectify this major oil spill, and we’re letting everyone know the first step is as simple as getting a haircut.”
