Speak Up For Kids CASA 5K @ Jones State Forest

May 25, 2010 - PRLog -- Conroe, Texas - An Inaugural Montgomery County, Texas, CASA 5K Trail Run titled "Speak Up For Kids CASA 5K @ Jones State Forest" will be held on September 18, 2010, to benefit CASA Court Appointed Special Advocates. Sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, the fundraiser event will feature both a 5K run and a 1K for children, and will include many wrap-around activities for participants and families. All proceeds from the event will directly benefit Montgomery County CASA, and will be used to raise awareness and recruit and train CASA advocates.

The Jones State Forest was founded in 1926, named for W.G. Jones, the father of Texas conservation. The forest encompasses 1,700 acres and provides a habitat for the red cockaded woodpecker. It provides many outdoor activities like camping, fishing, and 15+ miles of  hiking, biking, jogging, and horseback riding.

The Montgomery County CASA 5K Trail Run was the idea of Mrs. Texas International 2009, Bonnie Hubert, who is not only a runner, but a Texas spokesperson for CASA Court Appointed Special Advocates. She thought a unique trail run through the Jones State Forest would enable participants to enjoy a beautiful and aesthetic environment while participating in a 5K, to help a most worthwhile cause. Bonnie Hubert is the Crisis Intervention Specialist for the Conroe Independent School District and sees firsthand, the need in the community for neglected and abused children to have a 'voice', an advocate, in the judicial system.
