Some Of The Greatest Musicians Are Deaf

Beethoven started losing his hearing at the height of his career but it only inspired him to write more and performed more proving that music is more than about the notes and melodies.

May 24, 2010 - PRLog -- The most notable musician who suffered hearing loss is Ludwig Van Beethoven. He started losing his hearing around 1796. He experienced some ringing in his ear. Naturally he found it hard to clearly hear music and started withdrawing from the society. His doctor advised him to get some time off by himself just as so he could get used to his condition. That was when he wrote Heiligenstadt Testament. This is a letter he wrote for his brothers Carl and Johann. He told them about his sadness and depression over his condition and also his desire to go through his life and his art with it. He never sent this letter and was only later on discovered by Anton Schindler and Stephan von Breuning.

His conditioned worsened and worsened. In the premiere of Ninth Symphony he didn’t hear the public’s applause because, naturally, his back was to the crowd. He had to be turned around physically for him to see the overwhelming applause he was getting. He didn’t hear it. He cried.

Just as he vowed to do, he continued making music and staging concerts. It was difficult but also financially rewarding. However, he recognized his own shortcomings. In 1811, he tried to play The Emperor but failed. That is the last performance he attempted.

He did use hearing aids but the business was very young at that time . The cause of his hearing loss remains to be undetermined although there were speculations that it was related to sexually transmitted disease and his weird habit of submerging his head on cold water to avoid falling asleep. An autopsy was conducted and he was reported to have a distented inner ear. High levels of lead was also found on his hair.

More deaf musicians are proving that deafness does not deter them from making music. Recently, a commercial of Pantene in Thailand featured a deaf violinist. Sean Forbes, a deaf punk artist, recently landed a major recording with a big label. Their stories should serve as an inspiration to everyone who are deaf but wants to continue making music.

The modern age are now providing everyone an opportunity to do something about it. Check out  http://www.hearing-aids-prices.com/cic-hearing-aids and http://www.hearing-aids-prices.com/sonic-hearing-aids for more information.
