During the press conference, a rendering of the statue was unveiled by Sculptor Brian Hanlon, and Yogi Berra.

“This sculpture represents a tribute to New Jersey's most decorated athlete and a man who has tremendous respect from the public as a result of the way he has led his life,” said Hanlon. “My hope is that this statue serves as an inspiration and educates future generations about the life of Yogi Berra, both on and off the field.”

“Yogi was a great athlete and role model who set a great example for young athletes during his career,” said Jennings. “So far we have been targeting players from past and present Yankees teams and we are happy to say that current Yankees shortstop and Captain Derek Jeter and outfielder Nick Swisher have been the first to contribute to the statue.”

Once the statue is built, it will be placed out front of the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center located on the campus of Montclair State University.

“This sculpture of Yogi will be a wonderful fixture for our new Museum & Learning Center,” said Dave Kaplan, Museum director. “It’s really an iconic rendition of a true American icon.  Most importantly it will be here for future generations to admire, and hopefully inspire them to live an exemplary life.”
