Several Injured in Auto Auction Accident

May 21, 2010 - PRLog -- At an Ellijay Georgia auto auction, just outside of Atlanta, 27 people were injured when a car, on it's way to the auction block went out of control and drove into the crowd.

On Tuesday Feb.16, 2010,  a Volvo, driven by an auction house employee, on it's way to be auctioned off, suddenly started to increase in speed, due to a mechanical failure, and struck 27 people as they were standing inside the auction house.

The sheriff deputy on duty states that as the car was turning left driving into the auction house, he witnessed the car accelerate around the corner with tires spinning, and the car was fishtailing as it entered the crowd of people inside the auction house.

The crowed numbered over five hundred, and all scattered in various directions. The car drove into the crowd accelerating out of control. Twenty seven people were struck with several direct hits causing serious injuries. Five of the victims were children under eight, on being in a stroller.

The injuries range from minor cuts and bruises, to broken bones, concussions, and punctured lungs. Their were several unconscious victims, two of whom were under the vehicle when it finally came to a stop. Five of the victims were airlifted to an Atlanta area hospital with serious injuries, on being life threatening.

The vehicle made several complete circles as it started spinning out of control, and traveled some fifty feet once inside of the auction house. The vehicle struck the building in several places and damaged seats and tables. Property damage was estimated over ten thousand dollars.

Charges have not been filed against the driver, who has been left unidentified at this time. The accident was unintended and the driver was extremely shook-up over the incident.
