May 20, 2010 - PRLog -- Hollywood, FL: TOM JONES is the Extreme Athlete.  Tom Jones is called an “extreme: athlete.  But when people hear what he has accomplished, more often than not, they ask if ”extreme” is an “extreme” enough word describing him.  Why are Tom Jones endeavors so extreme?  Because, he has an extreme passion for troubled youth and environmental causes, and staging these events is his way of drawing attention to and raising funds to eradicate the negative issues that will affect our future.  Planning to break his own World Record by Stand-up paddle boarding from Key West to New York City leaving May 15, completing this adventure sometime in August.

SOLE’ will host the Miami Beach stop for Jones with a charity pool party on Sunday, May 23, 2010 starting at noon.  Tom Feeley co-owns the new fully opened SOLE’ On The Ocean, a boutique Hotel on Sunny Isles Beach and SOLE’ East in Montauk, NY where the adventure ends in August with a paddle around the Island of Manhattan For Autism Speaks.  “Everyone loves a pool party, with music, dancing, grilled food and our wonderful ocean just outside the door.  We have planned a wonderful day to celebrate and contribute while enjoying a Sunday afternoon” says Feeley.

To start the day,  Surfrider Foundation is having a Beach Cleanup and paddle along with Tom Jones from Haulover Beach to the SOLE’ party located at 1735 Collins Avenue.  The event supports two charities, Surfrider Foundation who works to protect our oceans, waves and beaches and to protect Special beach front places that are being destroyed by over development.  Also Autism Speaks Foundation who is dedicated to funding global biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments and cure for autism; to raising public awareness about autism and its effects on individuals, families and society; and to bringing hope to all who deal with the hardships of this disorder.

JONES TO DOUBLE HIS CURRENT WORLD RECORD!

It’s around 2,800 miles which is double my current World Record of 1,250 miles set at the California Paddle Challenge in 2007” states Jones. Coming along for the ride as “Safety” is World Renowned Surf Champion, Darrick Doerner who has more big wave experience and know-how than anyone.  You ask what has Tom Jones the Athlete done...He has run the length of California several times--at a pace of a marathon (26.2 miles) per day.  He has also run from California to New York at the same marathon per day pace.  That’s right...120 consecutive days...26.2 miles per day.  Make that 121 consecutive days, because when he arrived in NY, he competed in the New York City Marathon, and finished in less than four hours.  In 2003, Tom ran a marathon, and followed it up by competing in a sanctioned Muay Thai Kickboxing Match which he won by KO in the third round.   To make a long story short, “If it can’t be done, Tom will DO IT!”

Actor/Comedian Guy Richards To Be Guest At Miami Beach Stop

Actor/Comedian Guy Richards is proud to be a part of the Miami Beach Stop by participating in the Beach Cleanup and to finish up with the Charity Pool Party at noon on Sunday, May the 23rd at noon.    Mr. Richards has always been an advocate for environmental issues and takes an active role in prevention and educating the public.  “If we all just start with the small changes today; it will certainly benefit the world tomorrow”, says Guy Richards.

Editor Notes:

*In 2007, Tom set a World Record by stand-up paddle boarding the entire length of the California Coast (1,250 miles) with “California Paddle”, to help raise awareness for the “plastic pollution” in our oceans.  Tom successfully completed the Endurance Island challenge where he biked then ran (134 miles each portion), then stand-up paddle boarded around the Island of Oahu (over 200+miles) to again bring national and international attention to the seriousness of “plastic pollution” in our oceans.

*In 2008, Tom traveled in Baghdad to help inspire and motivate the troops.  He was extremely well received and the troops encouraged and inspired with his presence and support.

* In 2009 Tom will be challenging himself to “Big Waves for Safe Kids”.  For every 20’ plus wave that Tom can catch and document, 10k will be split between him Tom Jones Foundation and Safe Surfing Foundation. www.SafesurfinUSA.org
