Young Stewart-Haas developmental race car drivers Tyler Clem, age 7, and Michael Atwell, age 10, posted big wins this weekend at the USAC Easter State Series Championship in Braselton, Georgia.

May 17, 2010 - PRLog -- TAMPA, FLORIDA: Clem Racing, Inc. (CRI) just experienced its best weekend of racing ever, with major wins posted by 10-year-old driver Michael Atwell and 7-year-old driver Tyler Clem. Atwell and Clem, both Stewart Haas racing developmental drivers, competed in the USAC Eastern States Series Championship .25 Next Gen races this past weekend in Braselton, Georgia.

Despite the stiff competition with nearly 100 cars entering the event, Tyler Clem qualified second and sat on the outside pole of the Junior Honda race. He passed pole sitter Chandler Smith midway through the race and never looked back as he went on to capture victory in the Junior Honda division AMain.

Tyler then set a new track record in the Briggs Junior Animal Division and sat on the pole of the AMain. As he was passing a lapped car, the two tangled, knocking off Tyler’s chain and forcing him to go to the pits for a quick repair.  Upon the restart of the race, Tyler was lined up in the rear of the field, but then managed to pick off the entire field except for the leader, who had a sizeable lead with six laps to go.  A yellow came out due to a wreck, and with 5 laps remaining, Tyler dove down low on the restart and went on to victory, picking up his third Amain win of the weekend, and a first for Tyler’s young career.

The night before, on May 16, Tyler competed in the QMA Junior Honda division in New Smyrna, Georgia, and won that Amain as well.

Michael Atwell had a record-breaking weekend in Braselton, as well. Michael set new track records in two of his three divisions. Michael sat on the pole in all three of his races, and won the A mains in Light 160, Briggs SR Animal, and just got nipped on the last lap, finishing second to Garrett Jones in the Light Briggs World formula..

Overview of the weekend’s events: Three track record qualifying times, and five out of six AMain victories.

CRI team owner Bubba Clem and crew chief Dan Atwell are proud of their sons’ performances this past weekend. CRI returns to action this weekend (May 22-23) in the 2010 QMA Florida States Race this Sunday, May 23 in New Smyrna, Florida.
