May 22, 2010 - PRLog -- There would be times, when you feel that your good guitar is actually losing some tune.  Learning how to tune your instrument is important for every musician.

Xaviera Arata Editor of the  Learn To Play The Guitar  website -- http://www.LearnToPlayTheGuitar.tv -- pointed out;

“…When learning to play the bass guitar, it is important to get an electronic tuner. Some would tune their instruments by ear, but if you are a beginner then having an electronic tuner would be important. A beginner usually finds difficulty in differentiating the different notes…” Added Xaviera Arata

There are different kinds of tuners or different tuner settings to accommodate four string or six string bass guitar and acoustic guitars.  You can connect the tuner to the bass, this would help you identify if you have a sharp or flat note. Actually, it would be a good idea to purchase an electronic tuner upon getting your electric bass guitar. There are good tuners available in a reasonable price.

As you learn more about playing the bass guitar, enhance also your tuning skills. Learn how to tune by ear. This would develop your musicality and at the same time would help you identify if you instrument is falling out of tune. Tune you bass guitar regularly. Before a performance, tune your bass guitar to make sure that it will not be making catastrophic sounds during the performance.

The standard bass guitar has four strings and arranged from the highest to the lowest string.  The highest string is the thinnest and the lowest is the fattest.  It is arranged as G-D-A-E.   A five string would have the same tuning plus the low B string.  A six string bass guitar would have the same as the four string. Only that the lowest note and the fattest string would be the B string. The highest and the thinnest string is the C string.

When tuning the string, you just have to loosen or tighten the string to achieve the desired note and tone. The tighter the string, the higher the tune is. The looser the string, the lower the tune. You would just have to listen to the tune to make sure that it is hitting the right notes. You have to be careful with tightening the string. If the tension of the string increases too much it could break.

“…Tuning an electric bass guitar, any instrument all together, is a difficult task for beginners but can be mastered through practice. If you are still unable to tune by ear, then stick with the electronic tuner…” Added Xaviera Arata
