May 13, 2010 - PRLog -- In a landmark court ruling last week, Central-Florida based DeLand Dodge became the first car dealership to be reinstated following Chrysler’s bankruptcy declaration, which resulted in the cancellation of 23 dealerships in Florida alone. Ira Silver, Certified Public Accountant and partner in charge of the Orlando office of the nationally recognized public accounting firm Morrison, Brown, Argiz & Farra, LLP (MBAF), recently testified in the case as an expert witness.  Orlando-based attorney Mark Ornstein, partner at Killgore, Pearlman, Stamp, Ornstein & Squires P.A., sought Silver’s automotive finance expertise to prevail in the case against Chrysler.  Ornstein represents over 100 new car dealers nationally.

The federally mandated arbitration process is between Chrysler and about 800 terminated dealerships across the country. The DeLand Dodge case was part of a hearing that considered the cases of three local dealers simultaneously, though the other two cases were rejected. Located at 2322 S. Woodland Blvd., the auto dealer will resume its DeLand Dodge-Kia name.

“We are very excited to be the first to win a case against Chrysler with DeLand Dodge in this arbitration process and to blaze the trail for other auto dealerships across the country,” said Ornstein. “We all worked very hard to succeed on behalf of our client. Thanks to Ira Silver from MBAF and economist Hank Fishkind our job was a lot easier.”

Silver’s experience includes litigation support, auditing and business consultation services to small and largely closely held businesses in retail, wholesale and service industries and specializes in the acquisition and sale of automobile dealerships.  He has been involved with valuation of automotive dealerships, compliance review relating to income tax provisions, financial statement reporting (audit, review and compilation), estate and succession planning, LIFO inventory reserves, negotiating capital, negotiating purchase and sale of dealerships, profitability studies, analysis and consulting for various profit centers within a dealership, and valuation of automobile dealerships.  He is the co-author of the Florida Institute of CPAs: Accounting for Automobile Dealerships – Handbook.  Silver is a licensed CPA in the state of Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, and North Carolina.

The DeLand dealership is owned by Gil Dannehower of Daytona Beach, in partnership with the late Bruce Rossmeyer, owner of several Harley-Davidson dealerships.
