Educating Children About the Religions of the World

New DVD for schools educating children aged between 7-12, about the community life, worship and traditions of Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam and the Bahá’í Faith. Filmed on location in several countries across the globe.

May 14, 2010 - PRLog -- Many nations are experiencing increasing cultural diversity, and learning to live together in a multicultural society is one of the major challenges of modern society. Religious rites, customs, and art play an important role in the cultural life of societies and shape the lives of many people. Therefore, learning about the different religions of the world is of paramount importance.

A new educational DVD for Grades 1-6  responds to this need. This six part series, entitled My Religion, gives school students an unbiased view of the daily life of these religious communities: Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam and the Bahá’í Faith. Families and communities from England, Germany, USA, Canada, Italy and Australia share with us a bit about their every day life and invite us to find out more about their religion, worship and traditions. Each title introduces a child that belongs to one of these families. The children have a common identity in that they all live in Western societies, in order to stress the point that these societies are made up of people of diverse religions.

The information is presented in a clear and uncluttered manner that young children find easy to understand. Unfamiliar words are explained and highlighted with captions. The programs are designed to spark further questions and open discussion. They come with a Teacher’s Guide, which contains teaching ideas, vocabulary and suggested resources. Stills grabbed from important frames in each program are included on the disk as special features. This helps the teacher to emphasize key points.

The series is suitable for both domestic use and school viewings. The DVD is sold with limited public performance rights to show the programs on it in a school, public library, prison or military base without further written permission.
