Follow on Google News | Unofficial Tours Partners with City of Boston To provide a New Tour of the Freedom Trail & DowntownUnofficial Tours, an established walking-tour company based at Harvard University, is launching a new tour of Boston in March of 2010 - “Ye Olde Boston Tour”.
By: Unofficial Tours, LLC Ye Olde Boston Tour is scripted to be historically accurate, fun and entertaining. The tour unveils Boston’s history through theatrical performance. Unofficial Tours’ Founder Daniel Andrew recently stated, “Ye Olde Boston Tour is very different from traditional tours of the Freedom Trail. The guides are actors who use Boston as a stage to perform mobile theatre! Ye Olde Boston Tour is to classic walking tours what The Daily Show is to CNN. We walk backwards and talk between stops, and we try not to take ourselves too seriously. This allows our guides to genuinely connect with visitors.” Original stories told on Ye Olde Boston Tour include the Boston Police Strike of 1919, The First Ponzi Scheme, The First Ever Block Party and The Great Boston Fire of 1872. Even heavily toured sites like the Granary Burial Ground are treated with a twist – guides perform a hip-hop inspired rhyme about the famous Bostonians buried there. In addition to the tour, Unofficial Tour Guides can be found outside the Park Street Subway Station on the Boston Common offering free maps and information. This remarkable private-public venture between Unofficial Tours and the Boston Parks Department provides a unique service for the Boston visitor. Unofficial Tour Guides are easy to spot as they wear vibrant uniforms that include bright green Boston shirts and a distinctive straw hat. Stacy Shreffler, GBCVB Media Relations & Tourism Sales Manager, recently expressed her enthusiasm about this partnership saying, “The sight of those bright green Unofficial Tours T-shirts and smiling faces is going to create a buzz downtown. We are excited that Unofficial Tours is bringing its youthful energy and enthusiasm to Boston and the Common.” Tours will start on March 5, 2010, Friday – Monday at 10:45, 12:30 & 2:30. Tours begin on the Boston Common at the Brewer Fountain located between the Park Street Subway Station and the Boston Common Visitors Center. Tours last approx 70 minutes and for the month of March cost nothing to join. From April 2010 forward, Ye Olde Boston Tour will be ticketed and will run on an expanded schedule. Those times can be found at our website: http://www.unofficialtours.com. The cost of the tour is $10.00 per adult and $8.00 per student/senior & $6.00/child. Tickets are available at the Visitors Center on the Boston Common, from Boston concierges, or online at http://www.unofficialtours.com/ # # # About Unofficial Tours Unofficial Tours was created by Harvard alumni in 2006 with the purpose of capturing the imaginations of Boston’s visitors through youthful guides and fun tours.
