Follow on Google News | ‘For the love of the game’ - photography exhibition of Welsh FootballA fascinating photographic exhibition offering unique portraits of Welsh football grounds goes on display at the Dylan Thomas Centre from 18 May – 13 June 2010.
By: City and County of Swansea The exhibition is the work of Swansea-based photographer, Beth Mitchell. ‘For the love of the game’ captures the essence of Welsh Premier Football League grounds, exploring themes of community spirit, loyalty, and how people and landscapes have shaped concepts of Welsh identity. Football in Wales has a long tradition of fostering strong communities who take pride in the sporting success of their local clubs. In turn, every club has its own unique history, and its own dedicated supporters who travel relentlessly to support their team from the terraces, come rain, wind, and – all too rarely – sunshine. This exhibition is for everyone with a passion for the traditions, customs, and communities that football in Wales has nurtured. Above all, it aims to take football back to its roots, away from the celebrity and glamour that we tend to associate with the game nowadays. It’s definitely more about flat caps, single figure entrance fees, and grandchildren singing in the stands. ‘For the love of the game’ will be officially launched at the Dylan Thomas Centre on Saturday, 22 May at 3pm. Free entry, all welcome. For further information on the Dylan Thomas Centre visit http://www.swansea.gov.uk/ The Dylan Thomas Centre is open from 10am – 4.30pm, 7 days a week. # # # News about activities, events and attractions in Swansea, Wales, UK.
