(May 11, 2010) – Kicks R Us, an Arizona non-profit organization that teaches martial arts skills to children in underserved communities has partnered with FiVi.com, a Web-based company, with offices in Phoenix and Boston to combat childhood obesity. The No More Childhood Obesity Pepsi Refresh Project has been selected as one of the 1,000 ideas, for the month of May and voting by the public will determine the top 2 recipients of the $250,000 grant money. With the Pepsi Refresh Project, applicants submit ideas that will have a positive impact on the community, and those ideas are posted online to be voted for. Voting for No More Childhood Obesity began May 1 and continues through May 31. To vote for the No More Childhood Obesity program, visit: http://www.nomorechildhoodobesity.org "Childhood obesity has sadly become a public health crisis and it is essential for all of us (nonprofits, for profits, celebrities, athletes, parents, schools and communities) If selected, FiVi will build a series of online portals that will be accessible to all nonprofits and community organizations, to provide toolsets of logging and tracking a child's physical activity. The free social media platform will also assist local communities to encourage schools and government officials to provide healthier alternatives in schools. "After learning of Kicks R Us charter and mission, it was glaringly obvious there are committed organizations ready to fight childhood obesity but lack the necessary tools and platform," said Nabil Aidoud co-founder of FiVi. FiVi Co-founder, Mason Harding, said, “Social media gives us a valuable tool for collaboration, information sharing, and education with grassroots efforts to fight childhood obesity..” Kicks R Us will provide voting opportunities at their first fundraising event, At Bat for Kids, a softball game and healthy kids’ expo at Tempe Diablo Stadium, 2200 W. Alameda Dr. in Tempe, AZ on May 22, 2010 at 5pm. Hosted by Disney Channel's Alyson Stoner, the childhood obesity awareness event will feature a concert by Radio Disney contest winners, Jonnie and Brookie, local dance schools and martial art studios, plus fun "edutainment" http://www.youtube.com/ About Kicks R Us Kicks R Us uses martial arts training as a vehicle to instill the values of discipline, self-respect, determination, confidence, and physical fitness for disadvantaged youth.
