I want to start off by wishing my mother and all other mothers, a very happy mother’s day. May God bless you all…
I didn’t know the history of Mother’s Day so I looked it up for everyone since I’m sure there are plenty like me that didn’t really know how it got started. It’s nice that it did though!
In the United States Mother’s Day started 150 years ago, when Anna Jarvis, an Appalachian homemaker, organized a day to raise awareness of poor health condition in her community, a cause she believe would be best advocated by mother’s. She called it “mother’s work day” so even then our days were still work days. Fifteen years later, Julia Ward Howe, a Boston poet, pacifist, suffragist and author of the lyrics to the “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” organized a day encouraging mothers to rally for peace, since she believe they bore the of human life more harshly than anyone else.
