UNDERCOAT – armour for sensitive skin

Undercoat is a new product offering a desentising effect on over sensitive reactive skin which may allow people to use cosmetics and skin care products which they would otherwise be too sensitive to use.

May 7, 2010 - PRLog -- Sensitive skin is a huge problem, especially when it comes to many skin care products, in particular sun creams and cosmetics. There are many skin care products, sun creams and cosmetics claiming to be suitable for sensitive skin but selecting and choosing which ones are best tolerated by your skin can be a painstaking minefield.

Wouldn’t it be comforting to just have one product that could de-sensitise fragile skin so that whatever is put on top isn’t such a problem?

Skin Shop is proud to introduce UNDERCOAT (see http://www.skinshop.co.uk/item.asp?i=8896) - its latest innovation in cosmeceutical technology for sensitive skin.

UNDERECOAT is a unique new one-stop solution to the complex and growing problem of sensitive skin.

UNDERCOAT’S sole function is not to reduce wrinkles, firm skin or improve tone, but to provide an ‘armour’ for sensitive skin, increasing the skin’s tolerance to a wider range of skin care products.

The causes of sensitive skin are not precisely known, but an increase of the permeability of the stratum corneum as well as an exaggeration of the nerve response are thought to be involved which can be affected by lifestyle factors such as smoking, alcohol, depression, stress and fatigue as well as existing skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis and rosacea.

What is known, however, is that sensitive skin is over-responsive to temperature changes, some skincare products and cosmetics and certain medicines. Sensitivity can cause a number of symptoms including redness, rashes or sensations of burning or itching, which although often temporary, can develop over several days and remain for varied periods of time.

Skin Shop’s new KALME UNDERCOAT contains the tetrapeptide Skinasensyl, which has been dermatologically tested* to reduce the nerve response to external irritants by decreasing the release of pro-inflammatory neuromediators in the skin. By doing this the skin’s tolerance is increased and sensations of pain and discomfort are reduced. In trials, the de-sensitising effect of Skinasensyl was evaluated by measuring the Cutaneous Thermal Sensitivity (CTS), using a thermal probe applied on the skin.**

The conclusion of a randomized blind clinical trial on 20 people whose skin was irritated using capsaicin, was that a cream containing 2% Skinasensyl significantly reduced skin sensitivity and irritation. After a period of just 30 minutes the skin was found to be less reactive and sensations of pain, itching and discomfort were reduced.

KALME UNDERCOAT should be applied twice daily to the face or body after cleansing either on its own or as an ‘undercoat’ before other products (including cosmetics or sun creams) are applied to help de-sensitise skin. When other products are applied after UNDERCOAT, allow for 15 minutes before applying other products.

KALME UNDERCOAT costs £17 (75ml): Available from http://www.skinshop.co.uk or see http://www.skinshop.co.uk/item.asp?i=8896 or call: 0844 7009975
