May 6, 2010 - PRLog -- Vanity sinks are fast becoming an essential element for modern decorating.  A well-appointed bathroom offers a home interior that is more inviting place for guests, and adds to the overall value of your home.  Antique and reproduction bathroom vanities are a way to recast the whole look of a bathroom. These sinks, whether in a small or large space, can become the focal point of the room.  There are so many style options when it comes to vanity sinks.  This article will list some of the most popular vanity sink looks, but, remember, the combinations that are available today are only limited by your creativity and imagination.

•Painted vanities: These vanities are most often seen in a French Country or Provincial style of decor.  Antique vanity sinks may be painted white, off-white, with milk-paint, or with other light colors to achieve this look.  These sinks are often distressed to add to the old-world feeling of the vanity.  Painted vanities may be used in combination with wainscoting, painted walls, or tiled walls.

•Lacquer Vanities: These vanities are most often black in color, and offer a striking contrast to the rest of the bathroom’s appliances and surfaces.  Black lacquer protects the surface of the vanity and adds to its allure.  Sometimes, black lacquer is painted or appliqued with floral patterns.

•Traditional wood vanities: With the attention to detail that is necessary to create a beautiful antique bathroom vanity, it is important to choose a medium that shows craftsmanship to its greatest advantage.  Woods used in creating bathroom vanities- including cherry, mahogany, and oak- are meticulously carved and crafted into actual furniture. Wood vanities are usually topped with either sealed wood or marble.  These surfaces allow for easy cleaning and are warp resistant.

Gone are the days of the ubiquitous laminate bathroom sink and counters.  Antiques bathroom vanities will add variety and individuality to your home, while continuing to provide necessary storage space and camouflage for exposed plumbing.  Another great attribute of vanity sinks is the variety of cabinet styles that are available.  Some vanities consist of a simple two door cabinet.  This style allows for a single large storage area under the sink.  Others offer one or two drawers in addition to a smaller cabinet space.  Many vanity sinks offer a false drawer space, or a small pocket storage area that pulls forward for storage of small items such as toothbrushes and razors.

When choosing your bathroom vanity, consider the overall look of your bathroom.  Space limitations are the most obvious factor in choosing a bathroom vanity, for example, when deciding between a single or double vanity.  In addition, the room’s layout and style can help to determine which type of vanity to choose.  For example, you might choose a black lacquer vanity for Asian decor, an all-wood, low gloss finish vanity for  mission style, or a antique reproduction with a polished marble top for a more extravagant style. Corner vanities and smaller vanity styles are becoming more common as the trend for bathroom vanities becomes more popular.
