Follow on Google News | Marketing Salary Review 2009-2010 available from Brand RecruitmentBrand Recruitment has issued its annual salary review which gives both employees and employers an insight into starting salaries across the Eastern Region, along with average commute times and candidates’ reasons for seeking career opportunities.
By: Steve Mann In-house roles appear not to have been hugely affected by the recession; salaries have emerged to remain relatively the same or have even slightly increased. “We have also noticed increased demand for Brand Managers and Senior Brand Managers” claims Managing Director Steve Mann, “this could illustrate many companies wishing to increase their market share in a ‘tough’ market place”. Agency roles, on the other hand, have seen a fall in salaries across the board. “This may have been affected by many clients putting a freeze on outsourcing their work” states Mann, “but this is the first year we have included digital agency jobs in our Salary Review due to their increased popularity and growth”. There was not a huge surprise in the sector versus role section with Not-for-profit organisations and Charities being the most affected. Salaries on average had decreased by 7.8% for this sector. The only industries to have experienced an increase in average salaries are Medical/Pharmaceutical and Technology/Software with an increase of between 3.55-4.46%. This manifests the difference between the varying sectors and their organisational structures. When it came to location and average salaries, this has not changed that much from last year’s Salary Review. Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire have all seen a slight rise in salaries, whilst there was a significant fall in Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk. This has also been reflected in commuting times with the exception of Cambridgeshire. Candidates living in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Cambridgeshire travel an average of twenty minutes less than those from other counties. This could highlight the calibre of leading employers that are based across the East of England. A positive outcome of the review is that over a quarter of the people surveyed are seeking new opportunities because they are looking to progress their careers rather than as a result of their current position being made redundant; something which Brand Recruitment is keen to highlight to employers.
