How Many Energy Assessors Does it Take.........to fill a training centre?

June 8, 2010 - PRLog -- Nu-Heat Underfloor and Renewables invited 38 energy assessors to attend a special training day to learn about heat pumps, solar thermal and underfloor heating.  

The Devon and Cornwall Home Inspectors Association (DCHI) was founded in 2006 by people who had trained as Home Inspectors. Today, membership covers all aspects of the energy and HIP industry including EPCs (Energy Performance Certificates) for domestic, non-domestic and public buildings both new and existing, HIPs (Home Information Packs), Air Conditioning, Air Leakage Testing of Building; Code for Sustainable Homes. DCHI is also available to provide a reliable source for information and assistance.

Energy assessors are at the forefront of the expanding energy industry, although their assessments on buildings are governed by the restrictions of government regulations and programmes. These are split into the three areas of domestic, commercial and new build, and each is analysed in a different way.

‘The Government is possibly not aware of how quickly the energy industry is changing, and government models for energy assessment don’t currently cater for renewables, although this must surely change soon,’ says DCHI Secretary Tim Baxter. ‘DCHI and other energy assessor groups on the other hand are well aware that these systems are becoming more popular and we are keen for our analysis to be up to date and contemporary.’

When industry-leader Nu-Heat gave DCHI members the chance to learn about the technologies, they were delighted. The training day overviewed solar thermal, air source, ground source and exhaust air heat pumps and also touched on underfloor heating and how the technologies can be integrated. It also covered insulation requirements and showcased some of the products.

The assessors said that the training day was ‘one of the best days’ they have had, as it covered so much ground and was extremely informative. Nu-Heat’s training centre is next playing host to visitors from Bristol City Council wanting to learn about heat pumps.  

Nu-Heat has provided support to a number of RSLs in the supply and design of heat pump, solar and underfloor heating systems.
