Wolfe Scores 2nd ICORE Win at Rocky Mtn. Regional

May 5, 2010 - PRLog -- LOS OSOS, Calif. — Richard Wolfe of Escalon, Calif. picked up his second Open division title of the season at the International Confederation of Revolver Enthusiasts (ICORE) Rocky Mountain Revolver Regional this past Sunday in Eaton, Colo.

The event is part of a six match revolver competition series sponsored by Smith & Wesson, the 158-year-old firearms maker whose wheelguns are a favored by competition shooters.

Wolfe dominated the Open division winning seven of the eight stages and posting a final score of 179.61, placing him high overall in match.

“I shot a pretty clean match, though you can always shoot better. Overall it was a great match and I had a lot of fun shooting it,” said Wolfe who shoots for the Sierra Arms shooting team.

“The flow of the match worked for me and allowed me to stay on my game. I like it to be fast so when I do run into trouble, like on the second stage, I can quickly move past it. After stage two I was itching to move on,” admitted Wolfe.

It was second place finisher and last year’s winner, Craig Calkins of Colorado Springs, Colo., who tripped up Wolfe by besting him on the second stage of the match. Calkins finished the event 31.1 points behind Wolfe with a final score of 210.71.

Bruce Schmidt of Rapid City, S.D. claimed third finishing 63.80 points out of first with a final score of 243.41. In 2009 Schmidt finished the match in seventh place.

Rounding out the top five, Mike Homm of Garden City, Kan. narrowly edged out Dave Lucero of Morrison, Colo. by a mere 1.13 points to finish fourth with 254.52 to Lucero’s fifth place 255.65. However, Lucero took top honors as both high senior shooter in the Open division and overall in the match.

Also in the Open division, William Ramsey of Arvada, Colo. won the Super Senior title while Betty Gentry of Soda Springs, Idaho captured the High Lady title.

The ICORE Rocky Mountain Regional Revolver Championship was held at the Weld County Fish & Wildlife High Plains Shooting Range Saturday and Sunday, May 1-2. The competition drew shooters from throughout Colorado, as well as California, Idaho, Kansas, South Dakota and Utah, and was the third in a series of the six regional events. The next regional event is scheduled for the Sunday, July 18 when the Central States Revolver Regional will take place in Buchanan, Mich.
